2012 proved to be a very big year for superheroes with the release of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. There won’t be as big of a competitive hubbub over Iron Man 3 vs. Man of Steel since they’re decently spaced apart. 2012, however, may prove to be a big year for other sci-fi adventures. The list is long and so full high expectations. Here is May’s list of upcoming blockbusters that will surely want your wallet’s attention.
3. IRON MAN 3
The creative team behind Iron Man 3 hope to redeem the franchise after its lackluster second installment as they bring in the comic book hero’s heavy-weight baddie, Mandarin. Stark’s back is against the wall and he has to fight his way out of the corner if he wants to save the people he cares about.
10. THE GREAT GATSBY
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic story gets a fantastic silver screen treatment from director Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, Australia). Frankly, this is how I always imagined how the story would look.
17. STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS
I won’t lie, I hope I’m wrong about this movie being too much like The Wrath of Khan; however, Khan is such a great villain, the other part of me doesn’t even care. And better yet, the villain is Sherlock’s own Benedict Cumberbatch. He has the ability to lull you into a sense of security with his voice while strangling you at the same time. What a dream…*choking sounds*
24. HANGOVER PART III
They promise this one won’t be like the last two; there won’t be a wedding the boys will have to attend, so no bachelor party. Everything else though… No promises. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ll wait until it turns up on HBO or something. Speaking of watching the same movie that seem to have the same plot…
Fast and Furious 6 comes out the same weekend. No trailer for this one either; at least, not until Super Bowl Sunday.
Here’s a little something for the kiddies. Blue Sky (Rio) brings us another fun animated movie about a teenage girl discovering a whole new world of tiny-sized people. This indeed looks really fun and maybe even a good watch for the adults.
31. THE PURGE
What do I know about this movie? Only what IMDB tells me. But it stars Ethan Hawke and Lena Heady (Game of Thrones, Dredd), so…there’s that.
Given the country’s overcrowded prisons, the U.S. government begins to allow 12-hour periods of time in which all illegal activity is legal. During one of these free-for-alls, a family must protect themselves from a home invasion.
